We all know that Elvis is still alive and never out of style. Today it will be 46 years since he left the earth but in many ways he's still around as we can still see his pictures and hear his music everywhere. There is something eternal about him.
I wanted to make an Elvis-tribute and therefore I made an Elvis-shirt.

Question: What do you do if you have a bunch of outgrown and well-worn sweaters?
Answer: You put them all together and make a new sweater out of them of course!
Upcycle old sweaters into new Elvis sweater!

As the mother of two teenage sons, I have the privilege of being able to inherit clothes from my children. I am now the smallest in the family, so when the clothes are outgrown, I am the one who take care of them. Usually I make sure to make something new of them.
Now I was hungry for a nice, soft sweater and after a bit of searching in the mountain with old clothes that I have in my wardrobe, I found three gray hoodies and one pair of gray soft pants. Great, I thought! That will be perfect for my new Elvis sweater!

First I looked for a good Elvis picture that I sketched. Then I ironed the double-glued interlining, fliesofix, on a fabric on which I transferred the Elvis sketch.

I ironed the image of Elvis on a square and then I sewed.

I cut out squares from the gray garments and arranged them in a pattern that I liked. You have to do a little back and forth before you get to grips with the pattern and are satisfied.
My shirt consists of 40 squares and all squares measure 18X18 cm (about 7X7 inch), which also includes 1 cm (about 3/8") seam allowance.

I sewed the squares together in rows with four in each row and then I sewed the rows together. I used my overlock machine for this work.

I used the pockets form the old pants. They made a perfect square.
It was a bit tricky to fit the arms, I didn´t want them to be too short or too long, but finally I found out.

The waistband of the trousers fit perfectly with the neckline and hem of the sweater. Just fold and sew with elastic seam or narrow zig-zag. It will look best if you edge outside with a twin needle.
It's a really fun sweater to make. It is very easy to sew as it only consists of squares.
I have saved the pieces of fabric that were left from the old hoodies and trousers and there are also three strong, good zippers. It will be exciting to see what kind of new creation they will become eventually.....
